Diesel Gala Ängelholm, Sweden May 14-15 2010
Friday and Saturday of May 14-15 2010 will be one of our biggest events to date. It will be Swedens first Diesel Gala, and it will be held at the Swedish Railway Museum in Ängelholm in the south. The theme will be GM locomotives, meaning locomotives with a diesel engine from General Motors. From the 50s to the 70s several hundred engines were built at NOHAB in Trollhättan on GMs licence, which are now spread all over Europe. Several locomotives have been preserved by the national and private railway museums in Scandinavia, and some are still working in freight service. We are hoping to be able to show many of these big, heavy, boisterous engines. An experience for all of your senses.
This Gala will take place over two days.
Friday the 14th will focus on an intensive timetable with freight and passenger trains on the lines around Ängelholm (also lines normally open to freight trains only). This is a wonderful chance for anyone to film, take photos, record the loud sound, travel in the trains or just enjoy, listen to and watch the trains. The trains will go uphill in the steep gradients of Hallandsås ridge, and also out of the underground station at Helsingborg uphill through Pålsjö woods.
Saturday the 15th will focus on showing the facilities on the yard of the Railway Museum in Ängelholm.
Preliminary program
- Take a ride on a diesel train to Båstad (over Hallandsås ridge), to Åstorp, or to and from Helsingborg.
- Photo freight trains with full loads will drive over Hallandsås primarily on Friday. We hope among other things to be able to, in connection with Banverket Production, have a Tb-loco ( 12-cylinder 1235 kW engine without silencer) with a fully loaded ballast train in action.
- Photo busses will be available for all those who want to see the trains working on the uphill stretches.
- Exhibition of different locos on the museum yard.
- Visiting GM-locomotives from other countries such as Denmark and Norway
- Visit the cab on exhibited engines
- Cab riding in GM-locomotives.
- Driving courses of GM-locomotives.
- Short rides behind a diesel locomotive.
- We are hoping to exhibit modern and radio controlled engines in corporation with freight train railway operators.
- Railway market on Saturday
- Arranged Photo Session with all the engines around the turntable on Friday evening
- Concert with GM-locomotives on Saturday
- Visiting veteran cars (GM)
- Miniature Railway in the park with visiting GM mini locomotives
- Model exhibition with GM locomotives in all sizes and several working model railway lay-outs.

BBQ
On the evening of Saturday May 15th the Swedish Railway Museum will be holding a BBQ by the turntable.
This will provide an opportunity to mingle among the locomotives with colleagues and other train enthusiasts while enjoying your meal.
The gates open at 20:00 and the grill will be on until 22:00. The bar will be open from 20:00 till 24:00.
Tickets to this BBQ must be bought in advance
and cost 250 SEK.
Included are 3-4 different kinds of grilled meat (+ a veg alternative), salads buffet, bread, coffee and cake and alcohol free drink. The bar will be open for anyone wanting to purchase anything else.
Bringing your own alcoholic beverages is not permitted.
